Japan
The flight time between Dallas Ft. Worth (DFW) and Osaka, Japan (NRT) is 12 hours, 51 minutes – which is a distance of 6,428 miles or 10,344 nautical kilometers. I think it is safe to say that is the furthest I have ever traveled in my entire life. And I’m trembling at the thought of being in a seat for that long – because flying three hours from O’hare to LAX is enough to make me antsy. However, not everyone gets the opportunity to travel to Japan as part of their job description – so I’m not going to complain. Even more baffling, its not quite my position – as on this tour instead of selling cotton I will be handling the responsibilities of making sure the Relient K guys have their gear set-up and ready for playing. It seems I’ve taken this opportunity before outside of the states when I tech’d a couple shows in Canada on Warped Tour. I’m gonna push for the title ‘International Tech Service and Management Employee’ – ITS ME!
I’m really excited to be going to Japan. Over the last couple of years – this band and crew has become like a family to me, and I’m glad that they are some of the best friends that I have. The thought of being in a foreign country, with no way of communicating, with my friends is very exciting. I can’t help but think about two of my favorite actors in the movie ‘Lost In Translation’. I’m a huge sushi fan as well – and even though I’ve been eating a highly modernized American version of the food, I’m really looking forward to experiencing the real deal. Maybe we’ll get to go to a place where we have to take our shoes off and bow to the chef before we enter. Not sure how much time I will have to take it all in, but I’m very much looking forward to being over there for several days and thankful for the opportunity. I have no doubt that RK will be widely supported by the people there – it’s going to be great!
